Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Account registration details: name, email address, city, parish, account type, and seller type
• Listing content: vehicle information, photographs, descriptions, asking price, and contact preferences you choose to display
• Messages sent through the Platform's built-in messaging system
• Billing information submitted during payment: name, email, billing address, and ZIP code (payment card data is collected and stored directly by Stripe — we never see or store your card number)
• Communications you send to Cargeaux support

Information collected automatically:

• Browser type, operating system, and device information
• IP address and general geographic location
• Pages viewed, links clicked, and time spent on the Platform
• Referring website or source
• Authentication session data stored in browser cookies (managed by Supabase Auth)

Information we do not collect:

• We do not collect your Social Security number, driver's license number, or government ID
• We do not collect your precise GPS location
• We do not collect payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or CVV codes

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and maintain your account
• Display your vehicle listings to other users of the Platform
• Facilitate messaging between buyers and sellers
• Process listing subscription payments through Stripe
• Send you transactional communications such as payment confirmations, listing status updates, and new message notifications
• Respond to support inquiries
• Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service
• Analyze Platform usage to improve features and user experience
• Comply with applicable law and legal process

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for targeted advertising through third-party ad networks.

3. Information Shared With Third Parties

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

Stripe, Inc. — We use Stripe to process subscription payments. When you pay for a Geaux Featured listing, your billing name, email, billing address, and payment card information are transmitted to and stored by Stripe. Stripe's use of your data is governed by Stripe's own Privacy Policy. We receive confirmation of payment and a customer/subscription ID from Stripe, but we do not store your payment card details.

Supabase, Inc. — We use Supabase to host our database and authentication system. Your account data, listings, and messages are stored on Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase's use of data is governed by their Data Processing Agreement and Privacy Policy.

Other users of the Platform — Information you choose to make public on your listing (such as a contact email or phone number) will be visible to other users. Your username and general location (parish/city) may be visible in connection with your listings and messages.

Legal requirements — We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or valid legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Cargeaux, our users, or the public.

Business transfers — If Cargeaux is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any such change via a notice posted on the Platform.

4. Cookies and Session Data

Cargeaux uses browser cookies solely to maintain your authentication session. When you log in, Supabase Auth stores a secure session token in your browser so you remain logged in between visits. This cookie is necessary for the Platform to function and is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from logging in or using authenticated features of the Platform.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information from our active databases within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain it for legal, compliance, or legitimate business purposes (such as records of completed transactions or fraud investigations).

Listing data, including vehicle information and photographs you uploaded, may be retained in an anonymized or archived form for Platform analytics after a listing is deleted.

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), authentication session management via Supabase Auth, and access controls on our database.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

7. Your Rights — Louisiana and Federal

As a Louisiana resident, you have rights under the Louisiana Database Security Breach Notification Law and applicable federal privacy regulations. These rights may include:

• Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: You may update or correct inaccurate information through your account settings or by contacting us
• Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and personal information, subject to legal retention requirements
• Data breach notification: We will notify you in accordance with Louisiana law if a data breach occurs that affects your personal information

8. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately and we will promptly delete it.

9. Links to Third-Party Sites

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites, including vehicle history report services, financing calculators, or external resources. Cargeaux has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Platform after any such update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
